Jasper...

Thanks for the comments I got on the last post. Jasper died last night.. I can not find anything online about that white cloudy stuff. The lady at the pet store told me it was probably a fungus, and gave me some medication, but between the time I noticed the first signs of it around his gills, and wrote the blog from last night, went to the pet store, and treated him, the cloudy stuff was all over his body. I have decided I get way to emotionally attached after only a few days. I even bleached the tank out like they told me to after Sir Render died. (And then rinsed everything like 100 xs) So, I still have no idea what went wrong. I don't know if I am going to get another one or not. I do like having a pet to talk to and take care of, which was the reason for the first one anyways, but I hate killing them. I am actually up right now because I couldn't sleep.. I have been sitting here over analizing every little thing I did trying to figure out what went wrong..

Anyways, I started rambling there.. Just thought I would let you know that Jasper is the second casualty in the "Jennie learning to keep fish" saga.
Signing off,
Jennie

Maybe you should forget about fish and try something like a hampster, or a mouse, or something bigger like a cat or dog. We were given a dog as a wedding gift, and, at first, I wasn't too excited about it. :) Especially once it had to become a house pet (she was killing my mother-in-law's chickens if we left her outside, and if we left her in the garage she would pee on Mary's treadmill, and chew all the insulation out of the walls...not good...), but now I'm really liking having her around...she has so much personality, and she's fun to talk to and play with when I'm home alone. Of course, maybe your apartment won't let you...

Hi Jennie,
I'm sorry to hear about Jasper. The white cloudy stuff is usually either a bacterial of fungal infection. I use tetracycline, as it treats both. it is actually a human grade antibacterial med, but it works fabulously on fish as well. In case you can't tell, I'm a bit of a fish nut, so if you decide to give it one more try, and need help with anything, let me know, and I'll try to help... Or at least be there for moral support... Lol

P.S. Most pet stores have a 2 week guarantee on their fish... :)
